Deleting an AWStats Data File from your control panel

When running and managing your website website, no matter new or old one, your server may save old data that you don’t want to show in your AWStats statistics placed in your control panel of your hosting plan. These stats files can be easily cleared out by removing them from your tmp/awstats folder (reaching it by going to File Manager).

The stats are stored in text files (.TXT) in regards to the subdomains. In order to delete a specific domain/subdomain stats, you can find the text file for the domain/subdomain and remove it. A typical subdomain file name will look like the following:

awstats092022.domain.example.com.txt

or:

awstats092022.example.com.txt

This txt file shows the date 09-16-2022 for the subdomain subdomain.example.com. By deleting this file you will no longer have the stats for for that specific date and that specific domain/subdomain. Below are the steps on how to do this.

You should know that deleting an AWStats data file will permanently remove the stats for that domain or date, unless you use not to skip the trash.

1. Login into your control panel (usually cPanel).

2. Click the File Manager icon in the Files section.

cPanel File Manager

3. Click on tmp folder, then awstats folder in the left menu.

tmp folder and awstats folder

4. Now you can move the files to a backup folder or jus delete them. Also, you can download them locally in order to save them if you want to more space and local archive.
